This year in particular, I feel like commercially we have zoomed right past Thanksgiving and begun to focus on the Christmas season. Fall decor is already on sale in stores making way for shiny ornaments and wrapping paper and bows.
With marketers nipping at our heels, it’s easy to start our “wants” and “to-do” lists without first donning an Attitude of Gratitude for all of our many blessings. I know I’m certainly guilty of this. A planner by nature, I can quickly and easily get caught up in the hustle and bustle. And while I love the holidays, stopping and focusing on what I am grateful for is so important.
This post is a reminder to myself (and you) of Thanksgiving…of being grateful…and a few ideas to set a simple yet beautiful table for friends and family to gather. It doesn’t have to be elaborate to be lovely nor do you have to spend a lot of money. Going shopping in your own closets or cruising your neighborhood for nature is the perfect solution. Then if necessary, fill in with just a few small purchases to jeuge.

Here are a few ideas and examples to get things perculating:
Using berries from the yard, attach antiqued acorn bells with brown raffia ribbon and a THANKFUL tag to the linen napkin is a perfect example of how simple touches can have an impact. As an alternative, you could also use the tag as a name place card as well.
2. I love the pop of color with the blue plates paired with the rust brown linen napkins. Head outside for your fall leaves (or buy the leaves if scouring is unsuccessful) and attach to cinnamon sticks. Complete the look with a simple handwritten tag.
3. Simplicity at its best…Pine cones, mini pumpkins and varying heights of pillar candles wrapped and tied with a neutral string. Candlelight is always a welcome addition to any of my table settings.
4.
(1) For this table setting, I anchored the table with my burlap fabric I’ve had for years. [Note: You can purchase burlap runners, but I prefer the fabric bolt as it is wider and gives me much more flexibility in uses and when I’m jeuging.
(2). A large pumpkin succulent I made for a fundraiser was centered on the table & I worked out from there. You can do the same process without the succulents, but if you’re interested in learning how to make your own, see the step-by-step tutorial below.
(3). Next I gathered up several of the various pumpkins I have collected over the years that I normally use as part of my fall decor.
(4). I then infused some fresh pumpkins in varying colors and sizes, some fall leaves found outside and added votive candles throughout. Super simple but came out so pretty.
Btw, I was shocked to learn how incredibly easy pumpkin succulents are to make! No cutting of the pumpkin necessary…just a hot glue gun, moss and succulents (either from your yard or purchased at a local nursery). I found this easy tutorial on Simple Happenstance as a refresher. I didn’t use the spray adhesive they talk about in the tutorial, but other than that, it’s pretty much the same process I followed.
5. To add a little something to your table and remind everyone of our many blessings, this Gratitude Card at each place setting is a thoughtful touch. Guests can fill out the card and share with friends and loved ones what they are thankful for.
