One of my favorite Halloween decorations I put out every year? My darling ghost lanterns! They light up our walkway each October and, over the years, have gotten so many compliments.
This year, I thought—why not bring that ghostly glow indoors? And just like that, the idea for this year’s Halloween tablescape was born!

From Walkway to Tabletop:
After 20 years (yes, 20!) of being lovingly packed and unpacked, my original ghost lanterns were looking a little… well, ghostly in a bad way. 😬

Keeping It Simple (and Ghostly FUN!)
Life has been crazy busy lately, so I wanted this table to be low effort, high impact. I used what I already had on hand, and honestly? I think it made the table even better. The clean and simple vibe let the glowing ghosts be the stars of the show—with almost no extra effort from me. Winning!
Here’s How I Put It Together:
Linens:
- White tablecloth to anchor the look
- Black & white buffalo check cotton napkins
Dinnerware:
- Black reusable plastic plates (Target clearance find—just $0.50 each!)
- Everyday flatware & glassware
Floral Arrangements:
Table Decor:
- Mini white pumpkins
- Mini ghost lanterns – made shorter so guests can see across the table (flameless tea lights inside for ambient glow)
Dining Room Decor:
- Black gauze fabric draped over wall art for a haunted-house feel
- Wooden ghost cutouts (Dollar Tree score!) painted white and hung over the black gauze so they “float”
- Full-sized ghost paper lanterns placed around the room for extra glow
A Festive Table Without the Fuss
What I love most about this setup is that it proves you don’t need to spend a fortune or go overboard to create a spooky-chic Halloween gathering.
Add your favorite people, keep it casual (hello, potluck!), serve a themed drink if you’re feeling fancy—and you’ve got yourself a ghostly good time.
