My all-time favorite Christmas carol is Silent Night. Joseph Mohr knew what he was doing when he wrote this beautiful carol, and I’m not sure I’ve successfully gotten through singing it without shedding a tear or two (okay, maybe three.) I wanted to bring that tradition into our home, so I created this DIY Silent Night Christmas wall decor using oversized sheet music and a few festive touches.
Growing up, we had a Christmas morning tradition of gathering around the piano and singing carols together. So, I wanted to bring a little bit of that magic into my holiday décor (sans piano). And voilà—my solution: incorporating the sheet music from Silent Night into our home for the season.
I absolutely love how it turned out. When I shared it, so many people mentioned that Silent Night is their favorite too! It took a little trial and error to figure out the best way to hang it, but it ended up being simple, elegant, and totally worth the effort.
Here’s how I brought it to life:

Supplies You’ll Need:
- Silent Night sheet music – I purchased mine here:
- Option 1: https://bit.ly/4plWzCR
- Option 2: https://bit.ly/3X0Y9Ov
- Option 1: https://bit.ly/4plWzCR
- Narrow piece of wood (to attach to the top for hanging support)
- Thumb tacks – I used antique gold
- Wire for hanging (plus wire cutters)
- Garland – I used fresh for that heavenly Christmas scent, but artificial works too
- 3–4 Command Hooks (2 lb.) – perfect for seasonal décor without wall damage
- Small ornaments, ribbon, or other decorative accents
Step 1: Download & Print the Sheet Music
I downloaded a version that included the lyrics. Yes, you can find free versions online, but since I knew I was planning to showcase the final piece on Fun With Fun-Size, I chose to pay a small fee. It just felt right.
I sent the file to our local FedEx Office for printing. Some people have luck with architectural printers (the blueprint kind), but I personally didn’t. FedEx was easy to work with, friendly, and extremely helpful.
I wanted the print large—grand statement on the wall large—but still crisp enough to read. I landed on 4′ x 8′ in size, printed on off-white paper to give it a vintage, timeworn feel. The print quality is great, so I’m planning to reuse it for years.
Just a quick heads-up: printing it at this size wasn’t exactly a bargain-bin moment. But honestly, I saw it as a little holiday décor investment — one I can pull out for many Christmases to come.
Step 2: Added Support to the Back
Because the print is big (and a little hefty), my Hubbie had the brilliant idea to add a thin strip of wood along the back of the top edge for support. I attached it using antique gold thumb tacks, which ended up looking intentionally decorative—don’t you love when practical solutions double as pretty ones?
Step 3: Hanging the Print
Once we figured out where on the wall we wanted it displayed, my husband (Hubbie/Tony/Chief Holiday Engineer) placed painter’s tape to mark the top edge.
We attached three 2-lb Command Hooks along that line to make sure the print would be level and secure. Then we simply popped the attached wood piece into the hooks. Perfect fit, perfect hang, no stress.
Step 4: Add a Little Jeuging (Yes, That’s a Word)
To soften the look and bring the drama (the good kind), I added fresh Christmas garland from our local market.
Tony attached three small metal loops to the garland branches so they’d align perfectly with the Command Hooks already in place. We hung the garland along the top of the print and let it cascade down the sides, taking care to hide the hooks behind the greenery.
Next came the embellishments:
I grouped three small gold ornaments together with a pipe cleaner and added a green velvet poinsettia. Not only did this hide the “behind-the-scenes hardware,” but it also tied in beautifully with the tablescape décor I used in the dining room.
The Final Look
I absolutely love how it turned out with the fresh garland — the scent alone was worth it! But if I’m being honest, I’ll probably double it up next time to give it an even fuller, fluffier look. Just something to keep in mind if you’re going for that extra-lush holiday feel.
And bonus, you can see the Silent Night sheet music from the dining room, so when everyone is seated around the table, it is part of the whole experience and holiday decoration.
I love how this DIY Silent Night Christmas wall decor fills our home with nostalgia and warmth—just wait until you see how it all came together. Stay tuned for the unveiling!
