“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.”
— Oprah Winfrey
Any excuse to gather my friends is a good one—and Galentine’s Day couldn’t be more perfect.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve reconnected with some moms whose kidlets went to grammar school with mine, and it’s been such a gift catching up. Life has shifted, seasons have changed, and while we may not be in the daily trenches together anymore, the bond is still there. Galentine’s Day felt like the perfect reason to bring everyone around the table again.
What Is Galentine’s Day?
If you’re not familiar, Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13th and is all about honoring female friendships—no matter your relationship status. Whether you’re single, married, divorced, or somewhere in between, Galentine’s Day is simply a reminder to celebrate the women who show up for you in big ways and small ones.
It doesn’t have to be fancy or over-the-top. At its heart, Galentine’s Day is about connection, laughter, shared memories, and taking a moment to say, I’m grateful for you.
Galentine’s doesn’t require gifts—but if that’s your love language, you might enjoy my list of 35+ Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for friends and everyday favorites.
How I Put My Galentine’s Day Gathering Together
To set the stage for my Galentine’s Day, I wanted to keep things relatively simple. It was during the work week, after all—but you also know I can’t help myself when it comes to making a table festive. I also made a conscious effort to use as much as I already had in my entertaining arsenal as possible.
(For great ideas on what to have in your own Entertainment Arsenal, check out my post HERE.)
Here’s how I pulled it all together.

Table Linens
I knew I wanted to stick with a classic Valentine’s palette—red and white with a sprinkle of pink.
- White tablecloth – I love the texture and weight of mine (similar to this one). It’s actually more of a coverlet my mom brought back from Turkey, and I reach for it over and over again.
- Linen napkins – White with red hearts that were gifted to me (similar look here). HomeGoods is always a great option, too.
Tableware
Mixing everyday pieces with a few festive touches keeps things approachable.
- Red dinner plates – These Dollar Tree plates have been used for Christmas, Cinco de Mayo, and more. Such a steal.
- White plates – Wedgewood Strawberry & Vine (yes, I still use what I registered for all those years ago 😉).
- Acrylic wine glasses – A great find from the Target dollar bins last year.
- Everyday flatware
Table Decor Touches
This is where the table really came to life.
- Votive candles – Candlelight is a girl’s best friend… and great lighting
- Felt hearts (similar to these) for a little Galentine love
- Heart confetti sprinkled across the table
- Party favors placed at each setting (heart-shaped chocolates wrapped in cellophane bags tied with ribbon)
- Heart sunglasses
Floral Arrangements
I kept florals budget-friendly and easy.
- Red vases – Red is such a versatile color, and I use these on repeat.
- Valentine pendants – Added for festive flair (from Michael’s several seasons ago).
- Trader Joe’s flowers, based on what was available that day:
- Hydrangeas
- Jumbo mums
- Red carnations
- Eucalyptus
Additional Room Decor
A few simple touches outside the table made the space feel extra festive.
- String fairy lights woven through the dining room, clipped with colored heart doilies
- Balloons – Dollar Tree is a great source for inexpensive helium mylar balloons, and they instantly add a celebratory feel
The Menu
I kept the menu easy and mostly make-ahead so I could prep the night before and actually enjoy the evening.
Appetizer: Havarti cheese spread with raspberry topping (one of my absolute favorites) Get recipe.
Main: Chicken Divan casserole (a little flashback to my mom’s feel-good food) Get recipe.
Salad: Courtesy of one of the Galentine’s
Garlic bread: Always a crowd-pleaser
Dessert: Brownies with vanilla ice cream and loads of toppings (thank you, Lisa!)
Why Nights Like This Matter
The very best part of the night, of course, was connecting—sharing stories, laughing, and catching up. As mama bears, you’re in the trenches together when your kids are forming friendships and community. To be on the other side of that season and look back with fond memories, while also talking about the next chapter and new hopes and dreams, felt incredibly special.
That Oprah quote really says it all. I feel very confident these ladies would hoof it with me to the bus stop.
Galentine’s Day is exactly that—celebrating one another and the friendships that carry us through every season of life.
I had so much fun with this low-stress, cozy night with the ladies. I hope it inspires you to round up your friends and besties and celebrate Galentine’s Day in your own way, too.
