Invites – Favorite Things

These days there are tons of great options out there for invitations. Each invite serves a purpose and often it depends upon how much time, energy and money you have to spend. I’ve used everything from Poppynotes and Evites as well as several vendors on-line and they are all great options. But for my first Favorite Things party I was feeling crafty and wanted to try my hand at creating some handmade invitations. So, I went old school and set out to create something special to arrive in my guests’ mailbox.

I purchased sheet music of the song “My Favorite Things” from the Sound of Music on-line and printed out lots of copies. (Since I was using the copies for my own purposes and not for resale, I felt it was okay as I know copyright is always a concern.)
On a simple Word document, I typed up my invitation and color-printed them on white cardstock. I had black cardstock from my old scrapbooking days and headed to Kinko’s to cut and paste the pieces together.
(Their industrial size paper cutter makes the job go much quicker and the cuts cleaner)
I also included instructions for my invitees on the back of the invitation on how the party works as most of my friends were unfamiliar. In addition, I gave them some gift ideas for inspiration.
Here’s what I printed:
Here’s how it works:
Think about an item
you just LOVE that is $10-$15.
Bring 3 of that SAME item wrapped to exchange.
You will leave with 3 new items that could be your new FAVORITE!
A few ideas…
Nibbles & Libations will be provided. But IF you’d like to bring something, your FAVORITE beverage, appetizer or dessert to share.
For envelopes, I used leftover envelopes I had from last years’ Christmas cards and…voila!
This was definitely more time-consuming, but a complete labor of love. It was a throw-back to my old scrapbooking days and many of the recipients commented on the special touch of receiving a homemade invitation. Well worth the extra effort and the stage for the party was set! What’s your “go-to” for invites? Do tell! 😉
