With Random Acts of Kindness Day rapidly approaching (it’s February 17th), I’ve been thinking about simple Random Acts of Kindness Day ideas that anyone can do.
I think we often believe kindness has to come in big gestures — spearheading a fundraiser or making epic changes for a cause.
But think about this: how do you feel when you’ve been trying to change lanes on the freeway and someone finally lets you over? Or when your hands are full of packages headed into the post office and somebody holds the door?
That simple act of kindness can literally shift your entire day. It reminds you of the goodness that exists. It reminds you of humanity.
Previously, I wrote about my annual Lenten Challenge, “40 in 40” — 40 Acts of Kindness in 40 Days. It’s filled with over 40 ideas of random acts of kindness I’ve personally done, and even more have been added by those who’ve joined the challenge over the years. I still stand by it and love every minute of it — both the creativity it sparks and the way it fills my cup spiritually.
But for some, the idea of 40 in 40 can feel intimidating… or just plain overwhelming.
So here’s a simple alternative.
Be kind.
Be kind in simple ways. In small gestures. Sprinkle it throughout your day.

The world can feel like a very dark place — especially if you spend any time watching the news. But here’s the truth: we can each be a light.
In the darkest of rooms, a single candle can illuminate its surroundings. But first, someone has to strike the match.
Let’s go into our communities and strike those matches. Let’s let the light grow through small acts of kindness and intentional Random Acts of Kindness Day ideas.
We certainly don’t need a designated day to be kind — but it’s a beautiful place to start.
Wishing you a wonderful Random Acts of Kindness Day.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16
