St. Paddy’s Day Celebration

Top of the mornin’ to ya!…or whatever time of day you happen to be reading this. I have just enough Irish in me to think I’m legit, but really I’m just like most of you and pull out the green when St. Patrick’s Day rolls around.
The patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick lived during the fifth century. And, FUN FACT: He wasn’t Irish! He was born in Roman Britain, was kidnapped into slavery and brought to Ireland. He eventually escaped and converted to Christianity and became a priest. He returned to Ireland and is credited with spreading Christianity to its people.
What began as a religious holiday is now more of a festival celebrating the Irish culture—or you’re desire to be Irish, if only for one day. So don your green and get the corned beef and cabbage cookin’…It’s time to celebrate!
While I love me some leprechauns and pots of gold, I just wasn’t feeling it this year and thought it was time to elevate my St. Patrick’s Day game. I decided to go a little more on the formal side of a St. Paddy’s Day celebration but kept to the traditional green and gold colored theme.

For Linens:
  • Tablecloth -I wanted a tablecloth that was a bit playful and found this one on Amazon
  • Napkins – Keeping with my goal of using what I already have on hand as often as possible, I pulled my cream colored linen napkins from my stash, similar to these.
For Tableware:
  • Gold Chargers – I’ve had these for years and they have proven to be a tried and true investment. The closest to mine I found were these on Amazon. It’s an Inexpensive way to glam up your tablescape.
  • Plates – My wedding china was a good choice way back when. Basic cream color with a gold band gives me so many options when entertaining. (Mikasa Harrow)
  • Accent Plate– I scored these green ceramic plates on Amazon and thought they were a perfect addition for the pop of color I was looking for.
  • Silverware – This brushed gold silverware was also found on Amazon. I will say that while I loved the look of it, it was a bit dainty if hosting a gentleman. Just something to consider before purchasing.
For Additional Decor:
  • Flowers – I reused my fabulous gold vase/planter (found at Target) I used for Valentine’s Day (check out that post here). For flowers I made my usual run to Trader Joe’s looking for white, green and splashes of yellow or gold. I found St. John Wort in green & cream, white hydrangeas, jumbo mums in white, yellow & green, brassica and eucalyptus. With the gold vase as my anchor, I was very happy with the way the bouquets came together.

  • Votives – I used several different votive candle holders I already had on hand. I always have a large stockpile of votive candles. (At my age, candles are no longer just for “mood lighting”, the soft lighting softens wrinkles, too! 😉 You can buy them In bulk very inexpensively. I also used colored votives I found at Dollar Tree in green and gold to keep with my theme.
  • Garland – Felt shamrock garland in varied shades of green found at Dollar Tree. I used this down the center of the table and jeuged it to add some playfulness.
Favors:
  • Chocolate – Always one to give a little something to my guests, a favorite “swag” is chocolate. Ferrero Rocher happens to be wrapped in gold making it a perfect choice with my theme. Wrapped up adding a green bow was just the simple touch I was looking for.
Hint: I alway have a stash of fabric ribbon in various colors on hand. It comes in handy so often for gifts, favors, etc.
I think the table came out “grand”, I hope you thought so too! If you “give it a lash” be sure and let me know how it turns out. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me. – from a prayer of St. Patrick
