Every Christmas I love mixing up my dining room tablescape and creating something new for the season. Some years I lean into whimsy, other years it’s bold or playful—but this year I felt inspired to design a traditional Christmas tablescape filled with rich reds, deep greens, evergreens, velvet textures, and a touch of holiday magic. I’ve been crafting away behind the scenes, and I’m so excited to share the big reveal!
Since I hosted several gatherings—Bible study, Book Club, and my Hallmark Movie Night—I added personalized touches for each group. I’ll show you where I added a bit of jeuge (yes, it’s officially a verb!) and how you can create something meaningful for your own guests too.

Here’s how it all came together:
Creating Holiday Magic Above the Table
I don’t decorate above the table every year, but when I do…it becomes part of the experience. We still had the clear Command hooks from last year’s whimsical “Wrapped Up for Christmas” tablescape where wrapped gifts dangled above the table. (To see that look, click HERE!)
This year, I used fresh evergreens to create a suspended overhead installation. God bless my Hubbie—he once again brought my vision to life. We picked up the greenery at Costco, which kept the cost low but the impact beautifully high. The floating evergreens added instant Christmas charm and a magical forest-like ambiance.
To tie everything together, I added greenery to the chandelier along with glittered gold pine picks and a few small gold ornaments (from Dollar Tree). The light bouncing off the gold created a warm glow that complemented my DIY Silent Night wall décor in the entryway.
(See how I made that display HERE!)
Layered Table Linens for a Traditional Look
I love layering linens because it gives the table dimension and visual richness—and it’s such a clever way to hide a table that’s too small, too big, or a bit worn. (Before we bought our dining table, we used Grandma Ida’s old 8′ wood card table and no one ever knew thanks to great linens!)
Here’s what I used:
- White linen tablecloth – floor length
- Lenox Christmas tablecloth – a classic I’ve had for years
- Linen napkins in alternating forest green and burgundy for subtle contrast
The layered effect instantly created a polished and traditional base for the rest of the tablescape.
Elegant Tableware Choices
I love pulling out special tableware for entertaining. For this tablescape, I used:
- Gold chargers – I adore the layered look they create; they immediately elevate any table.
- China dishes – My sister and I chose the same pattern, which means we can host large groups between our homes.
- Flatware – I used my everyday silverware this time because I was entertaining frequently, but I do love to pull out my sterling for smaller gatherings.
- Glassware – Mikasa, classic and versatile, fits every theme beautifully.
A little heart note: It makes me sad when people say they never use their china. I get it—it can be a chore to wash, and tastes evolve over the years. But I truly believe our special things are meant to be used and enjoyed, especially with the people we love. I keep mine stored where it’s easy to grab, so it never feels like extra work.
Centerpiece & Table Decor: Time to Jeuge!
This is where the magic really comes to life. I purchased a few new items I knew would shine and added them along with some of my tried-and-true favorites. Staying in the traditional theme with red, green, velvet, and gold, I layered:
- Gold reindeer candleholders + white candles – I placed two sets at each end of the table.
- Fresh evergreen branches – These can be swapped out throughout the season to bring that fresh pine scent indoors.
- DIY velvet Christmas trees – Easy, high-impact, and a fun project (tutorial HERE).
- Green velvet poinsettias – Add a rich texture and tie the table’s colors together.
- Votive candles – Small points of light create a warm, inviting glow.
- Gold-sprinkled pine branches – Scattered along the greenery, they reflect candlelight beautifully.
By layering these textures, heights, and colors, the table feels lush, cohesive, and truly magical. And yes, I “jeuged” here and there—tweaking placement and layering to create the perfect festive scene for my guests.
Simple & Elegant Floral Arrangements
Since the tablescape already had height and texture, I went with florals that softened the look without competing for attention.
From my go-to, Trader Joe’s:
- White hydrangeas
- White roses
- Fresh greens
- White stargazers
I arranged them in a clear bubble vase and lined it with 4” waterproof aspidistra ribbon to give it a more finished look
I also grabbed two large fresh wreaths from Costco—truly the best value—and tied them with velvet ribbon to match both the DIY velvet trees and the favors at each place setting.

Thoughtful Favors for Each Gathering
I loved personalizing each place setting depending on who I was hosting:
Hallmark Movie Night:
Personalized candles wrapped in cellophane and tied with velvet ribbon.
Simple, cute, and universally loved! (I found mine on Etsy)
Bible Study:
Leather bookmark + ornament (from Dollar Tree), tied together with coordinating velvet ribbon. The bookmarks come in various colors matched the Bible Study theme perfectly.
Book Club:
DIY Book-Themed Ornaments with miniature versions of the books we’ve read tucked inside.
Yes, they were time-consuming—but so worth it! These were heartfelt, personal, and perfect for any book lover. (Tutorial HERE.)
Family Gathering:
Scratch-off raffle tickets! Fun, easy, and a little extra excitement at the table.
(Pro tip: Have coins ready so guests can scratch easily.)
Final Thoughts: Bringing Holiday Magic to the Table
I’m so happy with how this traditional Christmas tablescape came together. The evergreens, velvet textures, classic red and green palette, and shimmering gold accents created a warm, festive look filled with holiday magic.
And as always, many thanks to my Hubbie for helping this vertically challenged (AKA fun-sized!) girl bring her big ideas to life.
If you recreate any of these ideas, I would LOVE to see! Snap a photo and share—it absolutely makes my day.
