Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day motif for a sweet tablescape? Cue light pink, slightly blooming roses and soft candlelight and it’s go time! What’s great is this works for a gent ready to pop the question, a couple who has many years between them and their “I do’s”, or a group of Galentine’s celebrating one anothers’ friendship.

I created a table that is simple but impactful. To set the mood I wanted it to be a little more intimate, so I took an area in my house I don’t often use which has bench seating and rearranged it to make it a cozy and inviting table for four.

I switched out the pillows that normally reside there and grabbed pillows from each bedroom with white pillowcases for a blank canvas. I borrowed a couple of throw pillows from my daughters’ bedroom in a soft pink to add a little pop.

Sidenote: If I were to re-do this, I might have purchased a couple more Fluffy Pink Throw Pillows in the same palette to add texture and depth, but I don’t think it took away from the look, especially with the table being the focal point. Besides, the idea is to try and use as much of what I already have, not spend money on one-and-done items.

I brought over two dining room chairs and covered them with white twill slip covers . I used a 2 ½’ x 4’ card table and covered it with a white tablecloth to the floor I already had. I then overlaid it with this light pink patterned tablecloth.

To bring in some additional warmth, I wanted to add gold touches to the table. I first found a simple brushed gold vase from Target for $5 (Score!).  While my Target find is no longer available,  these matte gold vases are a great option, too.  And pulled out my gold chargers (similar to these) and matte gold silverware.

Food for ThoughtWhile I love the look of this silverware, they are definitely designed with women in mind. They are very delicate and on the smaller side which is not always optimal.

My favors were the perfect added gold touch for each place setting I found at Home Goods, $7.99 for a package of 2.

I also picked up some pink stemware  at Home Goods (like these).  Not one of my most practical purchases, but I loved the design of the glasses and thought it added a little something extra to the table. The white plates and pink linen napkins are from my own inventory (similar to these). Pink votive candles were a find last year in the bargain bins at Target, a favorite haunt. These are cute option, too.

My floral arrangements were made up of my Trader Joe’s “flowers of the day”—light pink spray roses, blush roses that were a little larger, St. John’s wort, rice flower bunches and eucalyptus. I had enough extra flowers to create a smaller bouquet I put in a white vase I already had and placed it on a stool right next to the table for some extra jeuging.

(Check out how to make Trader Joe’s flowers into beautiful floral designs here.)
For the final touch, I lit a fire in the fireplace ‘cuz nothing says romantic like candlelight and fireside.

I LOVE how it came together and shows once again you can be thrifty without compromising something tasteful and beautiful. I hope you enjoy. Would love to hear any tips and tricks you may have up your own sleeve. Please share in the comments below! 🙂 Happy Valentine’s Day!
