Snip Happens: A Vision Board Party

Setting the tone for the night—dream big, snip often.

It would take a couple of hands to count how long ago I’d made a vision board. It lived on my home office bulletin board where I saw it regularly—so regularly that it eventually blended in as just another part of the décor.

But as the year came to a close, I paused and really looked at it.

Amazingly, many of the things I had pictured had actually come true. I had learned how to surf. I’d gone on safari. My marriage, family, and faith were strong. It honestly stopped me in my tracks to realize that even if some things took longer than expected, I had indeed made them happen.

Your vision board doesn’t have to be perfect… it just has to be personal. (And yes, that's Snoop! ;))

What Is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a collage—usually created with magazine clippings, photos, or printed images—arranged on a poster board or cardstock. It’s a visual montage of your hopes, desires, goals, and dreams. Many people use vision boards as a way to intentionally focus on what they want to call into their lives for the coming year

Do Vision Boards Actually Work?

After a deep dive into studies dating back to 1993, I’d say the research supports the idea that vision boards can influence behavior. They help you visualize success, set clear personal goals, and create positive expectations. Bottom line? They certainly can’t hurt when it comes to staying focused on what you want to achieve.

I had already chosen my Word of the Year (see my blog post on how to choose yours HERE). While FEARLESS was going to ground me for the months ahead, there were still additional things I wanted to manifest. Creating a new vision board felt like the perfect complement.

An Excuse for a Party? Count Me In.

Because I love gathering friends in unique ways, I decided this was the perfect opportunity to turn vision boarding into a small, intentional—and very fun—get-together. A Vision Board Party felt like a beautiful way to dream, create, and support one another.

Here’s how I pulled together a simple, budget-friendly Vision Board Party.

A simple invite sent via text---perfect for a small, last-minute gathering

1. Invitations

Since space was limited (and planning was a bit last-minute), this was a small gathering with quick invites sent via text. I found a digital invitation on Etsy that was cute, affordable, and easy to send—perfect for a low-stress event.

Pro Tip: For small, last-minute gatherings, a simple evite or text keeps things easy, personal, and stress-free—exactly the vibe you want.

Everything in one place for easy creating and zero stress.

2. Decor

The focus was on crafting, which made décor choices easy: festive, but functional.

Instead of crowding the table, I opted for tall balloons in white, silver, and gold. Anchored with silver-wrapped weights, they added height and sparkle without blocking conversation. Dollar Tree star-shaped balloons brought just the right amount of glitz at a minimal cost.

Scrapbooking supplies make a comeback (and I was here for it).

I used the dining room wall as a focal point by stringing clip lights and attaching printed images representing vision board themes—travel, health, fitness, and more—to spark inspiration.

Pro Tip: I’d print these a bit larger next time for better visibility and more impact.

Along the buffet, I set up all the crafting supplies: stickers, glitter, construction paper, and more. (I basically emptied my old scrapbooking drawer from back in the day. Remember when that was a thing? Yep… and some of the glue had definitely seen better days. 😂)

Vision Board Party prep---equal parts practical and festive

3. Table Setup

  • A white linen tablecloth for a clean slate
  • Galvanized buckets filled with crafting supplies placed down the center
(I’ve had these for years and am amazed at how many uses I’ve found for them—true staples in my Entertaining Arsenal. For more must-haves, click HERE!)
  • Magazines, along with vision board images and sayings I created in Canva
(I asked everyone to bring magazines, but subscriptions are clearly becoming a thing of the past.)
  • Flameless white votives scattered throughout for sparkle without the fire hazard
(We only want to figuratively light up the night.)
  • Small bowls of candy and treats
(Because if you’re going to craft, snacks are non-negotiable. I’m pretty sure there’s a law.)
My favorite part---friends, conversation and creativity in full swing.

4. Food & Beverage

The gathering took place after dinner, so I kept things simple with a few appetizers, wine, and non-alcoholic options set out in the kitchen. Guests could help themselves throughout the evening, keeping everything relaxed and easy.

Vision Board Party was a success...now let the dreams unfold~

More than Just a Craft Night

This ended up being such an easy, breezy gathering. After the craziness of the holidays, it felt so good to pause, reflect, and refocus together. The vision boards turned out beautifully (I’m looking at mine as I write this), and they continue to serve as a daily reminder of all the fabulous things still to come.

Vision boards aren’t about magic or perfection. They’re about clarity, intention, and showing up for the life you want—one small step at a time. Whether your board includes travel dreams, personal growth, or simply more joy in the everyday, allowing yourself to visualize it is a powerful place to start.

And if you’ve been feeling a little stuck or unsure about what’s next, I can’t recommend a vision board enough. Gather some friends, grab the scissors (and the snacks—non-negotiable), and make a night of it. You might be surprised by what becomes clear when you give yourself the space to dream out loud.

A little messy, very intentional, and full of dreams in progress.
