(Updated 6/5/26) Summer has officially arrived, bringing with it longer days, warmer weather, and—hopefully—a little more time to unwind. Whether you’re headed to the beach, lounging by the pool, camping under the stars, or just enjoying a quiet weekend at home, summer offers the perfect excuse to dive into a good book.
But what exactly makes a summer read?
It doesn’t have to be all light and fluffy (though those are great, too). A true summer read is something that pulls you in quickly, holds your attention, and offers a sense of escape—whether it’s laugh-out-loud funny, delightfully romantic, or full of suspense and twists. Think easy to pick up, hard to put down.
For me, there’s nothing better than finally having the time to sit in the sun with a fun book in one hand (and maybe a cocktail in the other 😉). While I’m still working through the ever-growing bedside stack, I also wanted to mix in some fresh, lighter titles perfect for the season.
So, I set out to create a Summer Reading List that could guide your literary escape—whether you’re packing your beach bag or just daydreaming about a getaway. These books range from newly released page-turners to modern beachside classics. After sifting through well over 100 recommendations from trusted sources, I’ve whittled it down to a curated list of titles that promise to entertain, transport, and delight.
☀️ Let the summer reading begin!

Since summer publishing season is still underway, I’ll be updating this list as more great releases hit shelves throughout June, July, and August.
