Moms. The amazing women who put themselves last on the daily. Who listen with much more than just their ears but also with their hearts. They can take their kiddos temperature by simply a look or a sigh, often knowing what their child needs before their kidlet even knows. In my own experience of mommyhood, being a mom is one of the hardest yet most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever had. I stayed home for 14 years when my children were born. I had no idea what I was doing and second-guessed myself on the regular. Every mom around me looked far superior in their knowledge of what to do and how to do it. What I didn’t know at the time was that they were all “winging it”, too.
Yet somehow we managed to raise children of whom we are proud and love with hopeless abandon. Doing the best we could with the tools we had at the time, we did it. We raised good young adults, some of whom are now moms now making their own mistakes and discoveries along the way.
I salute all the mommies out there in all their fabulous forms: moms, stepmoms, grandparents, friends or aunties that are like a second or adopted mom, foster moms and beyond. You are truly the heart of the home and make a difference every day in your families. Thank you for all you do and for showing me how to be a better, kinder, more patient and loving mom.
